Dr. Francois Victor Tochon is a member of the Department of Curriculum & Instruction at the University of Wisconsin-Madison where he id heading Graduate Studies in World Language Education. In the US, the Department is ranked #1 of its specialty and Madison is ranked #17 on the Shanghai World Universities rankings. Prof. Tochon has a Ph.D. in Curriculum & Instruction (Universite Laval) and a Ph.D. in Educational Psychology (Ottawa University), and received the equivalent of Honorary Doctorates from two universities in Argentina and Peru.
Prof. Tochon worked on intercultural issues related to bilingualism in various countries and international language policies, looking for new ways to organize language teaching and learning. In 2009-2011, Prof. Tochon received an award from the US Department of Education to create, research and evaluate a "deep approach" to foreign language curricula that would respect a pluralistic and federative view of language policies. It allowed him to format an interface between language and classroom curricula and practices. With twenty five books and more than hundred fifty articles to his credit, Prof. Tochon has also been Visiting Professor in many universities. He is currently published in 11 languages. His article "The Key to Global Understanding" published in the Review of Educational Research (79/2) received the 2010 Award of Best Review of Research from the American Educational Research Association (AERA). In December of 2012, he received the Award of International Excellence for outstanding research from the University of Granada, Spain, and he was awarded the 1% most viewed profile on LinkedIn in 2012. For his contributions to Academic Affairs and Humanity, Prof.Tochon received the 2013-2014 Medals of the Council Chairperson of the Lions Club International and of the Lions Club International Foundation. His 480-page book "Help Them Learn a Language Deeply, The Deep Approach to Languages and Cultures" is a bestseller.
