The Funetics technology platform is a ‘brainchild’ of the digital age and is a unique product in the market: we are building a digital tutor for English pronunciation. Just as a face to face tutor would, this system assesses the student, recommends content based on their assessment, trains them in their recommended content and then follows up by generating a report for the parents, teachers and the users, thus creating a customised learning environment for each user.


Our unique assessment system, whilst still under development, is aiming to provide insight into the sounds that a user is struggling with in each word as opposed to the current market offerings which only provide a guideline for what word is being mispronounced.

Content Recommendation

The system combines the information from the assessment and the user interaction, runs this data through a series of complex search algorithms which then produce the tailored content for the user.


In combination with a simplified phonetic alphabet, we have mapped each phoneme in the English language to an accurate animated human mouth. This animation is used to give the user a more in depth look into the complex workings of the human mouth, showing the different elements used to generate sound.


The Funetics system compiles the data for each user and generates a report based on this data. This can be used to give tangible percentiles on the student’s performance comparatively to their peers or simply against the correct pronunciation (in differing accents) of the audio from the system.


The system has 3 accents available; American, English and Australian. On top of this, we have built an algorithm that enables any phonetic coding system to be used. We currently have over 70,000 words mapped to their phonetic coding and can use any official resource to source more.

The system, in its entirety, can be embedded into any existing digital text; any website, e-reader, phone, web app or standalone content. This is achieved through a simple API (Application Programming Interface) integration.
